6 Ways to Lighten Up

“Summertime and the living is easy”… remember that old song? My friend Sue can really belt that one out! Are you having a fun summer? I notice I alternate from being so busy to letting it all go and relaxing. What a fine balance of being productive and then playing! How about you? Can you dance between the DOING and BEING in you? Check out these 6 ways to lighten up this summer (and anytime):

    Take walks in lovely places; even a loop around your block can be rejuvenating. Be mindful of the colors of flowers, trees, and the sky. Breathe deeply. Take in the beauty.

  2. Rest every few hours to pace yourself and gain stamina. Sitting still with water, tea or coffee (no multi-tasking) while you take in the blessings of your surroundings can recharge your energy. I love to lie in my new hammock for a few minutes between clients.

    Meditate to calm, center and connect with the Spiritual Oneness and Awe of the Universe. Try a three-breath meditation, allowing  your mind to watch the inhale and the exhale. Research shows slowing down regularly actually lowers blood pressure, balances blood sugar and clears stress hormones like cortisone and epinephrine. Jim and I are meditation teachers and can share a multitude of ways to meditate. Just ask!

  4. Move your body! Walk, run, stretch, climb, hike, bike, dance, build something, or clean/clear something. Energy can be blocked from sitting so long. Get up and lean over your chair or desk, do some yoga stretches, jump rope, run the steps, make love, etc. Be creative! Experiment to find what turns you on and frees up your vital flow of life energy.
  5. Eat healthy foods and hydrate to give you a light and healthy feeling.
  6. Laugh! Be silly, tell jokes, watch funny movies or play with kids.
