Gaining Clarity
Are you feeling stuck, grappling with some big decisions, or struggling with difficult emotions? Try these tips and tools to gain or enhance clarity in your daily life:
Remain humble and grateful before the Source of All, by whatever name you call it. Pray for guidance regarding a specific issue or concern.
Often, you can quickly center yourself by becoming present to what’s occurring in your body and taking several deep breaths from your lower abdomen to your shoulders and back down.
Visualize being enveloped in a globe or orb of nurturing light–best done sitting with closed eyes. Select white, yellow, or gold light. Feel yourself being supported from all directions. You may receive a message or revelation in the process.
Quiet yourself long enough to attune to and be receptive to your inner guidance, especially regarding your core values and purpose.
Slow down and be patient.
Meditate. “Meditation is not passive sitting in silence. It is sitting in awareness, free from distraction and realizing the clear understanding that arises from concentration.” ~ Thich Nhat Hanh
Once you get some insights or good ideas, you may want to take some notes or make an outline, which you could later refine.
Engage in one task at a time; you can best focus when you avoid multitasking.
When you feel yourself becoming overwhelmed, take a rest or movement break in order to detach for awhile. Then, proceed with your agenda one step at a time.
Be receptive to new insights and inspiration during a nature walk, especially when surrounded by scenery that you really enjoy.
If you like to write, journaling can be instrumental in clarifying thoughts and emotions.
Identify and release any thoughts or behavior that doesn’t favorably serve you, other people, your project, or cause.
Avail yourself of the support of trusted family members, friends, colleagues, mentors, or professionals, e.g. a therapist or coach. They could assist you in brainstorming, if desired. Guided retreats can also prove very helpful.
Select whichever of the above suggestions that you feel most drawn to and that best support you. I’d suggest varying them. Also, feel free to extrapolate from these items to develop your own strategies.
